Theta Rho Sigma Chapter takes pride in providing a wealth of opportunities for service in The Bronx. Theta Rho Sigma works in partnership with national support organizations, including The National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), The March of Dimes, American Cancer Society, and many others. Even in these trying times, Theta Rho Sigma Chapter continues to thrive with virtual events.
Theta Rho Sigma Chapter participates in several of the sorority’s national programs. As a chapter, we work collaboratively with the March of Dimes to implement Project Cradle Care. We provide community-wide education to expectant mothers through our April Showers event, explaining the importance of early and regular prenatal care. We aim to expose the young mothers to resources that may enhance their ability to be self-sufficient and broaden their life options. For their participation in this event, we shower each attendee with gifts for their newborn. Swim 1922 is a groundbreaking initiative that seeks to strengthen USA Swimming’s commitment to diversity and inclusion by partnering to increase swim participation and decrease drowning rates in the community. Theta Rho Sigma Chapter hosts swim clinics to teach swimming safety. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death from cancer in American women. Every year, Theta Rho Sigma Chapter helps to fight breast cancer. We serve as volunteers for the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. In addition to walking, we raise much-needed funds for breast cancer research. Theta Rho Sigma understands the importance of giving students the tools necessary to be successful in the classroom. Throughout the year, Theta Rho Sigma accepts donations for Operation Big Book Bag to buy school supplies to underfunded schools and children that need assistance.
In addition to our sorority’s National Program, Theta Rho Sigma Chapter shows support by implementing local signature programs. Golden Meals is a community service project aimed at providing food to families in need within the Bronx community during the Thanksgiving holiday. In our Dear Santa Project, we select letters from children in need and give these Bronx children gifts from Santa Claus. Autism is a lifelong, neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by difficulty with socialization and communication skills. It can result in mild to severe challenges in thinking and learning and can significantly impede an individual’s ability to lead a fulfilling life and mature to independence. Autism is the fastest-growing developmental disability. Each year, we participate in the Walk Now for Autism event to increase awareness of Autism spectrum disorders, to raise funds for further research into the causes, prevention, and treatments for Autism.
